From imagined voyages into deep space to futuristic cities and remarkable new technologies, artists have long envisioned worlds beyond our own. Otherworldly: Science Fiction Art from The Hilbert Collection explores how California artists shaped popular visions of the future through painting, illustration, animation and entertainment art.
The exhibition features concept art by Eyvind Earle for Disney’s landmark television production Man in Space, original Star Wars drawings by Robert Bailey, animation cels from The Jetsons and the classic 1960s The Adventures of Tintin animated series, along with paintings and illustrations inspired by space exploration, scientific discovery and the limitless possibilities of tomorrow.
Blending fine art with animation and entertainment history, Otherworldly celebrates the artists whose imaginations expanded our own, inviting generations of viewers to dream of worlds that might someday become reality.
