Chiascuoro is a Mobius strip carved from Costa Rican Sandstone. The stone itself is from a geologic formation called the Burica Sandstone, which preserves fossils dating back to the Neogene period about 23 million years ago. The title, Chiascuoro, is an oil painting technique developed during the Italian Renaissance which utilizes strong tonal contrasts to portray three-dimensional forms.
