It’s no secret, I love abstract art. Working solely from my imagination, I invent abstracted landforms representing interesting places in time. Without a preconceived notion of how a painting will look, images gradually emerge through the use of texture and color. I paint intuitively, looking beyond the surface, reaching deeper, exploring the effects of erosion, sedimentation, weather and the passing of time.
Working with a combination of water media and collage encourages my freedom of experimentation. From the first acrylic pour, to random textural lines, to the addition of painted rice papers, to uncovering the final subject and composition, there is a need for constant intuitive decisions. Most importantly, I always include my style of design, combining geometric form with organic shapes found in nature.
Influenced by observation and a heightened sensitivity to geologic pattern and color allows me to shift attention from a world of technology to one that reconnects people to the richness of the land and its people.
